UniFi and Cisco Meraki networks
Years on both platforms. Meraki where you want cloud management and a support contract behind it, UniFi where the budget matters more than the licensing — and an honest answer about which one fits.
What this covers
- Site survey before anything is quoted — coverage planned against your building, not a floor-area estimate
- UniFi gateways, switching, access points and controller deployment
- Cisco Meraki MX, MS and MR deployment and dashboard configuration
- Guest networks, VLANs and per-SSID policy
- Taking over an existing deployment someone else half-finished
- Roaming that actually holds a call as someone walks the building
Which one is right for you
Meraki carries a per-device licence that never stops, and in exchange you get cloud management, hardware replacement and support you can escalate to. UniFi has no recurring licence and a lower entry price, and the support model is that someone competent owns it. Neither is the correct answer in general. The answer depends on whether you have someone to call at two in the morning, and on how many sites you are trying to see from one screen.
Access point count is the other place quotes go wrong. Coverage is set by walls and what they are made of, not by square footage — and a cinder block wall or an old plaster-and-lath interior will eat a signal that a drywall estimate said would be fine.

Projects this covers
- Warehouse and plant floor coverage surveys
- Multi-site Meraki rollouts managed from one dashboard
- Captive portal guest Wi-Fi with terms and time limits
- PoE switch refresh to support new access points
- Outdoor and yard coverage, including point-to-point links
- Taking over a half-finished deployment and completing it
